What are the Kirkies?

The organizers of Crossing Kirkland will present awards to individuals and groups who are most creative in their approaches to crossing Kirkland via the CKC. The most inventive and original entrants will be judged and awarded prizes at Crossing Kirkland Station 1 at the Feriton Spur, near the Google Campus.

Who can enter?

Anyone. Groups are encouraged. Gather a team from your scout troop, your school, your block, your book club or your company. Or let your creative self shine and do it on your own.  Come up with an idea. Surprise and delight us with your originality. Each entry must traverse at least 2 stations of Crossing Kirkland, including Station 1 at Feriton Spur (Google) between 1pm – 2pm on Sept. 8 . Please register for free here.

Why should I participate?

You mean, besides being the envy of your neighbors and relishing in the admiration of all who see your creation? Plus a year’s worth of bragging rights? You’ll have a chance to win a bit of history. A few of the remaining railroad spikes from the original rail line on the CKC are being transformed into prize plaques which will be presented to the most creative entries.

When is it?

Crossing Kirkland will be held on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018 from 11am to 4pm. In order to win a Kirkie you must officially register by August 15. To qualify each entrant must cross in front of the judges positioned at Chainline Brewing Co. between 1-2pm; winners will be announced shortly after 2pm.

What are the rules?

Your imagination is the limit. Bling out your bicycle? Get some help from animals? Assemble your organization in costume? There are only a few requirements:

  • Only non-motorized entries are allowed.
  • Your entry must be able to pass through a 5 foot wide passage. This is to ensure it can pass other entries on the narrow CKC.
  • No printed words, but organization or company logos are OK.
  • No fire or actual weapons are permitted.
